WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (September 4, 2018) – Attorney John W. Babcock, a partner at Wall Babcock LLP, has been recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2019 “Lawyer of the Year” for Mergers and Acquisitions Law in the Winston-Salem/Greensboro metropolitan area.
Only a single lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area is honored as the “Lawyer of the Year,” making this accolade particularly significant. These lawyers are selected based on particularly impressive voting averages received during the peer review assessments.
In addition to 2019, Babcock was recognized by Best Lawyers as “Lawyer of the Year” in 2017 for Mergers and Acquisitions Law, and in 2010 and 2016 for Corporate Law. Three other partners at Wall Babcock were named “Lawyer of the Year” in past years: Jim Wall in 2012 for his corporate law practice, Mike Drye in 2013 for his Mergers and Acquisitions Practice, and Dennis Bailey in 2016 and 2018 for his Personal Injury Litigation – Defendants practice. In addition to the 2019 “Lawyer of the Year” award, Babcock was also listed in the 2019 Edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice areas of Corporate Law and Commercial Transactions/UCC Law.
Receiving this designation reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and the same practice areas for their abilities, their professionalism, and their integrity. Since it was first published in 1983, Best Lawyers has become universally regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence.
A native of Michigan, Babcock graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1982, with distinction, with a bachelor of science in administration. He received his J.D. in 1985 from Wake Forest University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1987.
Babcock handles a broad range of corporate, tax and securities law matters, mergers and acquisitions and commercial business transactions. He is currently serving as a council member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Business Law Section and is a past Secretary and Treasurer of the Business Law Section. He is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, in the tax and business law sections, and a member of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section.
