WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (APRIL 1, 2015) – The law firm of Wall Esleeck Babcock based in Winston-Salem, has become Wall Babcock LLP. The name change comes as a result of the departure of the firm’s longtime partner Robert Esleeck, who retired from the firm.
Founded in 2006, Wall Babcock is a boutique law firm that has expanded its number of attorneys in recent years to provide a broad range of legal expertise, including corporate law, mergers and acquisitions; healthcare law; litigation; estate planning; taxation; mediation and commercial real estate.

He was a part of our firm from our beginning, and we will forever consider him our friend and professional colleague,” Jim Wall of Wall Babcock said. “Robert has practiced law for 35 years, served as a professor at Salem College prior to coming to our firm, and always had a passion for teaching. He is now working with the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries, and we applaud him for following his personal passion.”
Wall Babcock remains at its downtown Winston-Salem location at 1076 West Fourth Street in the historic West End neighborhood. The firm has eleven attorneys.
About founding partner Jim Wall
Jim is a 1986 graduate of the College of William and Mary, where he was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law.
Prior to being a founding member of Wall Esleeck Babcock, Jim practiced as a partner with Kilpatrick Stockton (now Kilpatrick Townsend) in its corporate and health care departments. Prior to his experience with Kilpatrick Stockton, Jim was a shareholder and director of Bell, Davis & Pitt, P.A., where he practiced in the firm’s corporate, health care, and insolvency sections.
Jim is the chair of the Health Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association (Physician Organization, Fraud and Abuse and Long Term Care Practice Groups).
Jim is a frequent speaker and author on issues affecting health care and small businesses. He advises health care clients on Stark, Anti-kickback, and HIPAA compliance, as well as other regulatory matters affecting health care providers and those providing management and other services to providers. He assists clients with choice of entity and compliance issues, and well as director responsibilities and fiduciary duties.
He represents corporate clients in significant contractual relationships, including executive employment (compensation, non-compete and confidentiality issues), independent contractors, and vendors. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia.
Jim is a certified mediator, has been recognized as a Legal Elite by Business North Carolina magazine, is included on the list of The Best Lawyers in America and was selected by Best Lawyers as Corporate Law Lawyer of the Year for the greater Greensboro market. Jim holds an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Jim has coached numerous youth teams. Jim and his wife, Amy, live in Winston-Salem and have nine children.
About founding partner John Babcock
John has extensive experience in corporate, tax and securities law matters, mergers and acquisitions and commercial business transactions.
John represents clients regarding all aspects of entity formation, debt and private equity financing, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and commercial business transactions. He also devotes a significant portion of his time advising clients on a wide range of tax matters, including partnership and S corporation tax issues, as well as representing clients before federal and state taxing authorities.
John serves as an adjunct professor of law at Wake Forest University, where he has taught courses in business planning, partnership taxation, and corporate taxation. He has also presented at several seminars on topics covering choice of entity and mergers and acquisitions.
John is a former shareholder and director with Bell, Davis & Pitt. He is former Treasurer of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Business Law Section and is a past Secretary and council member of the Business Law Section. He is also a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, in the tax, business law and sports & entertainment sections.
John graduated from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 1982, with distinction, with a bachelor of science in administration. He received his J.D. in 1985 from Wake Forest University, where he graduated magna cum laude, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University in 1987.
He is recognized as a member of the Legal Elite, as rated by Business North Carolina magazine, and continues to be included in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers. John is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell.
John has been an active volunteer as an officer and board member for Twin City Youth Soccer Association for whom he has also coached several girls and boys youth soccer teams, and was named as the North Carolina Challenge Girls Coach of the Year in 2010. John now serves as the Executive Vice-President of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association. John has also been active in coaching numerous youth basketball teams through the YMCA and his Church.
